Ever since I hosted a trunk show in New Orleans for the Paris-based designer Jane Pendry of Dovima, I have been haunted by the fragrance she wears. The dresses I ordered that day arrived a couple of weeks later in a gorgeous box from France, also filled with Jane’s familiar scent, which I had to have. She told me that the heavenly smell is called L’Ombre Dans l’Eau — a bewitching composition of black currant leaf and Bulgarian rose — a 1983 vintage from Diptyque.
